Norfolk Community Health & Care Trust employs over 2,000 full-time equivalent members of staff across Norfolk, serving a population of 900,000 people, making them one of the largest providers of community health and care services in the NHS.
The Trust operates from approximately 180 delivery points across the county, utilising a range of freehold, leasehold and short tenured estate.
They have been using Activeplan since 2013 to manage their estate information. They recognised that reliable estates management information was key to establish coordinated asset management processes and, as provider of clinical services, they also needed a system that recognised assets included people and the services they deliver.
They used Activeplan to draw together data from various applications to create a master property database for the County - not just healthcare but other properties used by different agencies to deliver services and care.
The major focus has been to improve space utilisation and Activeplan is used as an activity-based room booking system that presents those looking for a space from which to deliver services with options several buildings in a locality. This has enabled the Estates team to understand the true utilisation of spaces (not simply it was booked), provide capacity to deliver growing levels of services from their existing estate and dispose of properties where demographics have changed.
This is also helping inform their development strategy by providing a connection between service delivery and estates capacity to provide safe and cost-effective support.
